Marcus has 11 years experience in the communications and government relations sector in Alberta, and is accustomed to liaising between senior government officials and private sector management. He excels at communications strategy development and has an excellent relationship with all levels of government across Canada.
His political experience has given him a thorough understanding of the political area, which played a role in him recently being appointed as a member of Edmonton’s new NEXT GENERATION TASK FORCE.
Marcus was a key member of the recent successful leadership campaign of Ed Stelmach to become the Premier of Alberta, providing regular media interview training and being a key part of the overall communications strategy team. Previously, he provided strategic communications services to the election campaigns of Edmonton Mayor Stephen Mandel and former Deputy Prime Minister, Anne McLellan.
Following Mayor Mandel’s election campaign, Marcus handled a communications transition role in the Mayor’s office before returning to his private sector consulting position. During his term in the Mayor’s office he facilitated the annual Northern Alberta Mayors Caucus and coordinated the program of reaching out to neighbouring rural communities to create more inclusive relationships.
His relationship with the provincial Premier’s office, since the leadership campaign, has been strengthened and, together with Brian Hetherington, he has been involved in providing media interview training for a number of cabinet ministers and government task force chairs.
He has played a dual role in his ongoing consultancy with CHUM Broadcasting – assisting in the provision of government affairs counsel and developing special events for the various CHUM operations in Alberta.
On a national basis, he was the lead in organizing the 2003 leadership debates and conventions for the Liberal Party of Canada.
